Tell us about yourself:
Sarah Straley is the Central Ohio Program Manager at Green Energy Ohio's national headquarters. Sarah started with GEO on March 3, 2008, bringing with her a passion for "staying put" and greening Ohio. Over the past nine years Sarah has lived in Columbus and worked for such groups as Ohio Citizen Action, the Sierra Club, Highlands Nature Sanctuary and Simply Living. Such non-profit experience has helped Sarah to become a leader in community organizing, fundraising and partnership-building. Not only has she worked for many non-profits, she also volunteers and makes it a monthly practice to join various non-profits to financially support the greening of Ohio's farms, rivers, forests, gardens and urban communities.

Her passion for renewable energy developed while in graduate school at the University of Findlay, where she received an M.S. in Environmental Health and Safety Management. Her studies included environmental law and policy, remediation, risk and operational management, accounting and basic principles in chemistry and engineering. These courses left her intrigued with systems that continue to degrade the environment while viable options such as energy efficiency and renewable energies are often overlooked. Sarah's graduate thesis focused on the environmental impact of renewable energies and concludes with a visionary quote from Meg Wheatley, "To be responsible inventors and discoverers, we need the courage to let go of the old world, to relinquish most of what we have cherished, to abandon our interpretations about what does and doesn't work. We must learn to see the world anew." With that, Sarah joins the GEO team as yet another cheerleader, advocating for the mainstreaming of renewable energies across "O-H-I-O!"
What gifts can you to Ohio's renewable energy network?
First, I see that the above question needs to be edited! It's missing the word "bring", so someone please fix that? At GEO I help spread the green word, organize, market, promote and most importantly, speak altruistically and from the perspective of the divine feminine. Essentially y'all, this is the right thing to do.
What knowledge and practices do you want to learn?
I want to learn as much as possible about green design, how renewables work and about the policies and finance mechanisms that can help to deploy green technologies.
What about renewable energy makes you most excited?
Doing things smarter.
