Northern Ohio Rainy, Road-Trip - Behind-the-Scenes Pre-Tour - Part 3

September 27 - Thursday am & pm
North Lima (South of Youngstown) - McCarthy Systems - Delivered tour site materials for 3 sites new to the Tour, including the TMI HIX 101 kW site serving a Holiday Inn Express adjacent to McCarthy Systems Construction Group office.

New Middletown (East of North Lima) - Village Pharmacy - Delivered tour material to this drug store with roof top solar.  Owner Rick Carano has another drug store in Columbiana County on the tour as well.
These are the first drug stores on the GEO Tour to my recollection, although Walgreens has 52 drug stores with solar in 20 Ohio Counties which we have not been able to get on our tours the past several years.

Twinsburg - Zammikiel- Residence - Toured this interesting split-level home with all-electric, heat-pump and PV and energy efficiency.

Medina - SunLit Solar Array - Delivered 2 site materials to this solar firm storefront office and discussed their solar business with Nancy Milford and Mike Litman in their showroom. This company is running color ads in local newspapers promoting the GEO Tour and their tour sites.

Wooster - Barry Romich Residence - Talked to Barry at his solar home just North of the College of Wooster campus with its new Scot Center solar array.  Barry has an electric vehicle (EV) charged by his solar array along with the Klemme and Michel homes on the Wooster tour - the most of any community on the tour.

Akron - Akron Zoo - Delivered 5 site materials for Oct 6 Saturday Akron Guided Tour organized by Akron Zoo staffer Doug Piekarz.  Akron Children's Hospital is an energy efficiency site on the Tour by Go Sustainable Energy - a Tour Featured Sponsor.

Canton - Canton Guided Tour - Delivered 7 site materials to Dick Radesevic who again has prepared a well-organized guided bus tour of Stark County tour sites.  He's working hard to fill the bus again.

Sugar Creek - Paradise Solar - Got to meet our first to sign up Featured Tour Sponsor, Sheldon Stutzman at the firm's storefront office in Sugar Creek.  This multi-state solar installation firm has several business sites on the tour and tells me more will be on the way.  An interested tidbit from Sheldon.  He says that folks getting windfall dollars from shale gas leasing are using funds to install solar.

After leaving Sugar Creek, Faye and I drove to Walnut Creek in Amishland for a well-deserved dinner at Der Dutchman before a rainy, winding road trip back home to Columbus arriving at 10:30 pm.

Independence - Yellowlite - Delivered tour materials to installation firm Yellowlite in office tower in Independence.  Met with Yellowlite CEO Azam Kazmi and Nael Zayed and learned this firm is in 6 states with primary business in wireless telecom with Verizon.  They have now done 50 solar installations.

Northern Ohio Rainy, Road-Trip - Behind-the-Scenes Pre-Tour - Part 1

Last Tuesday to Thursday - September 25-27, I traveled 818 miles over 56 hours with my wife Faye's volunteer help to drop off tour materials to 54 sites in Northern Ohio (170 plus sites statewide).  As with previous tours, this is the GEO Tour for me and this year it was especially gratifying to meet several of our local GEO Corporate Members at their offices, including more storefront offices than ever before.  My stops were at:

September 25 - Tuesday pm
Lima - Gerad Residence - Talked to Lima News reporter on way North from Columbus that yielded news story about what has to be the largest residential PV in the state - see Tour Site link and September 29 Lima News story (along with other statewide Tour stories).

Findlay - Energy One Office - Met Rebecca & Jesse as we prepare GEO Wind Farm Guided Tour to Van Wert County on Thursday, October 4 with bus from Urbana.  Energy One is a Featured Tour Sponsor with utility-scale turbines installed at Cooper Farms near the massive Blue Creek Wind Farm - at $600 million, the largest private investment in Ohio in 2011.

Tiffin - Little Portion Green - Met with Sister Jane Omlor for tour of the Franciscan Nature Literacy Center - a very neat educational facility!  Last time I saw Sister Jane she was the "nun on the run" driving a BGSU mini electric racer at our University of Toledo June event as part of the first-ever Electric Vehicle (EV) Tour del Sol - another 800 mile plus trek circumnavigating Ohio.

Toledo - NW Ohio Candidates Night - Handed off Toledo Tour site material to Joe Perlaky and caught ;ast half of the candidates forum at the University of Toledo Scott Park Campus.
